You may have read the NY Times recent story regarding the new trend that couples are using to announce their engagements, receive wedding rsvp's using QR codes on their invitations and save the date cards.

According the the wedding couple interviewed in that news story they wanted people to go,‘Oh, that’s cool." When the code is scanned it took her guests to a website that had details about her wedding weekend events. “We didn’t want a traditional verbose information card, so using the code meant the card could be really clean,” she said.

Are there other ways you can use QR codes for your wedding? Of course. Here are a few ideas from http://qreateandtrack.com/ who made the save the date card to your right as well as the ones below:

Use them on your RSVP cards. Placing a QR Code could allow people to respond to your invite directly from their smartphone. The QR Code could point to a mobile-optimized landing page.

Last but not least, another use for QR Codes on Wedding stationery could be on table number cards. You could place a QR Code on each of the cards that could possibly point to a video of the couple thanking their guests or perhaps a photo gallery of the couple.

The Hustle. The Macarena. The Electric Slide. By themselves they're kind of cute, but put them all together in a wedding reception playlist and watch your guests roll their eyes (unless of course they've had too much to drink, in which case prepare for things to get ugly when they hit the dance floor.)

Not every bride wants a DJ who plays the "classics." Not every brides wants a DJ who chats it up before every song. And, not every bride wants a disc jockey as old as her parents. Simply put, modern brides and grooms are on the hunt for the "anti" wedding DJ who can spin all the hot songs AND take into consideration the likes of older guests who may not be gaga OVER Lady Gaga.

So how can you make sure you're hooking up with a wedding vendor that gets your unique musical tastes? Here's some pointers:

1. Be Clear On Your Likes and Dislikes
Hit your old CDs and print up copy of your iTunes playlist BEFORE you start looking for your wedding disc jockey. Once you have a list of songs both you and your groom adore and approve of, google the worst wedding songs of all time and add a "Do Not Play" list to your arsenal. The idea is to create an entertaining flow that fits your event and profile as a couple. If you're super low-key and don't mind letting your DJ work the room, make that clear. 4. Define the Details and Dress Code
It's going to look kind of funny if your groom and all his guys are wearing suits and your DJ shows up in a tuxedo, right? When brides and grooms start looking for wedding venues, too often they fall in love with the beauty of the place and sign a contract before they've considered the more practical things. It makes sense -- who wants to look back and say only, "Well, it was practical"?

But unless the place is so magical that you're willing to plan your whole event around it, your shouldn't choose between wedding venues until you've decided approximately how many guests you're inviting and the size of your budget. You'll also need to decide if you want to have your ceremony and reception in the same place, or if you want an all-in-one wedding venue.

Once you know these things, and you have a few wedding venues in mind that fit that budget and size, then it's time to start asking questions!

What's the decor like? Does it fit your style and wedding colors? Will you have to spend a lot of money on flowers and decorations to make it beautiful?
Do they have an in-house caterer, and do you like that food? (While an in-house caterer can be easier and cheaper, sometimes the food is not as beautiful as the room. So make sure you taste it!) Do they have a limitation on which outside caterers you can use?
Do they have adequate coat check and bathroom facilities?
Is the wedding venue wheelchair accessible? If not, are there many stairs to climb? How close is the parking to the ceremony and reception rooms?
What's the cancellation policy?
Is there a payment schedule? What kind of deposits are required?
Are there any hidden costs? (Before you sign the contract, read it carefully.)
What are the overtime charges?
Do they have a liquor license?
Will they allow you to bring your own liquor? (This is usually cheaper, even with the customary corkage fee.)
Is there room in the wedding venue for a band and/or dancing?
Does the wedding venue already own a sound system with adequate speakers or will that need to be rented?
Is there a space for the bride and groom to change and/or relax?
Where will you take photographs? Is there a park nearby, or do the coordinators have recommended spots on the grounds?
Who will be supervising and troubleshooting before the day of your wedding? Who will be supervising and troubleshooting on the day of your wedding? Can you meet them now?
Where can your guests park? Are there extra fees for parking? Do they have valet parking?
Is the wedding venue convenient to public transportation, especially in big cities? How long will it take your guests to get there?
Especially in museums or private clubs, are there limitations on decorations? Do they limit food and drinks to only certain areas of the wedding venue?
Are candles or other open flames allowed?
If its an outdoor location, do they have any backup plans for rain or other inclement weather? If not, is there a place that you can put up a tent?

Do: Read blogs, online forums and review sites (go to WeddingChannel.com vendor reviews) to get real brides' opinions of potential vendors and to write reviews of your favorites after the wedding.

Don't: Don't bash your vendors on review sites! Give kudos when deserved, and remember that your vendors are human. A thoughtful and honest review is the way to go.

Do: Use social media (like foursquare or Facebook) for checking in during your planning (at the cake bakery or floral studio). You could even score a discount along the way!

A classic love story!

Who doesn’t enjoy a good love story? Here's a brides version of her true love with none other then her groom, Kainapau.

"Kainapau and I met through casual friends surfing. We became best friends and I never thought we would end up together or even be getting married.... after a year or so of friendship my feelings grew and one day I realized I was in love with Kai! I guess you can say I was a little aggressive and definitely pursued Kainapau. We started dating September of 2009 and my life has been nothing but smiles. We went to Switzerland for a few weeks to visit a girl I went to school with and it was an amazing trip! We snowboarded, drank wine and ate lots of cheese. Towards the end of the trip; after a long day on the slopes Kainapau asked me to come out and look at the view. We were staying in a swiss chalet that had a panoramic view of the swiss Alps and there was snow everywhere. I followed him out and we were holding each other saying how beautiful it was. A few minutes later he stepped away from me and started acting strange then he said "You know I love you right? And one day I want to have little bambinos with you...” I started laughing and then he reached in his pocket and said "Mary one day will you marry me?" I was in complete shock! And he had a ring already on my wedding finger that was stuck; I started fumbling around saying "what? What?" and then the ring came off and I said “YES! YES! And now… I'm marrying my best friend :) and I'm so HAPPY!"

Here's their story.... "Chris and I are polar opposites....he's the outgoing type and I'm more reserved. With that being said, I have never found someone who I work so well with. It's completely true what they say...opposites do attract! I like to think that we're a very spontaneous couple. Nothing shows that more then our honeymoon to Greece. We deliberately didn't make any reservations or firm plans, and completely "winged" the whole trip. We have never had more fun. We have so much fun together and strive to find the most off beaten trail when we travel or have a day off. Now the weird quirky stuff....if one of us gets a song stuck in our head, we'll both start bustin' a move. Little shimmy-shake of the shoulders in the car....ya know, completely normal!"

Here are a few questions to ask when you're looking to hire a professional wedding photographer:

What styles do you specialize in? Do you do any creative shoots?
Do you use an assistant? Is there an extra charge for this?
Should our event last longer than scheduled, will you stay? Extra charge?
How many photos come in each package? What is the breakdown per photo?

If You're Pear-Shaped
Look for a skirt that gradually flares out in an A formation from the natural waist to the floor, highlighting the narrowness of the midsection and floating away from the hips and thighs. (Sturdier fabrics, such as duchesse satin and taffeta, are especially effective, since they won't cling.) A spaghetti-strap bodice or a V neckline will also showcase a more slender upper body.

If You're Busty:

Look for a dress with a scooped neckline. It will open up your face and display your décolletage without showing too much cleavage. If you love the look of strapless gowns, choose one that has a slight dip along the neckline, like a sweetheart, rather than a style that goes straight across (which will make your bust appear even larger and more shelflike).

If You’re Plus-Size:
Look for an Empire dress with a skirt that begins just under the bust and flows into a gradual floor-length A-line. Make sure the Empire seam does not start on the chest and that there is no pleating of the fabric, which is reminiscent of maternity wear. The dress should play up your shape; if it’s too loose, it will add pounds.

If You’re Apple-Shaped:
Look for a dress that cinches in at the smallest point on the waistline, then flares out into a gradual A shape. Opt for a bodice with a lot of texture to it―think ruche or lace detailing―that will camouflage and fit snugly, creating a corsetlike effect. The most slenderizing neckline for you is one with a deep V, which will draw eyes toward the vertical, not the horizontal.

If You're Tall:

Look for a simple silhouette. The strategy is to emphasize your natural shape, so every aspect of the dress―the lower waistline, a floor-sweeping hem―needs to reflect your longer proportions. If you're wearing long sleeves, they should go past the wrist. You don't want to look as if you've borrowed a gown from someone shorter than you.

"We are putting our wedding workbook to good use. It was a life-saver when Jon and I went to check out venues for our ceremony and for our engagement party. Here’s why ~

I am a bit of a perfectionist. I love organization. Whenever I get too stressed, I begin cleaning and putting things away, getting rid of junk and organizing my desk, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom…nothing is off limits to become orderly. So, being a rather organized person myself, it would seem that I should be all put together, right? Wrong…

When I begin interviews with vendors that I need to make my wedding perfect, I begin to stress and I forget half my questions. Fortunately, the wedding workbook that Jon and I chose has all the questions written down and all I have to do is write the answers in the spaces given on the worksheet. I won’t have to find my note pad(s) later and try to remember where I scribbled all my notes. It’s truly brilliant!

I used the venues worksheets 1st because our whole wedding design depends on our venue. We decided on a country-vintage wedding theme. We’ve also decided to forget the traditional idea of wedding colors. Instead, we are keeping browns and neutrals dominant with splashes of color in flowers and decor. I am wearing pearls with little diamonds for earrings and necklace and we’re encouraging everyone to dress to our theme. I love the idea of a mis-matched vintage-y wedding that is all our own! Thanks for the great workbook. It's been a lifesaver!"

A: There are many ala carte services available to help spice up your wedding, make your guests feel welcomed, and assist it in running smoothly. For example, if you're having an outside wedding, have you provided restrooms and a hand washing station for your guests? How about a photobooth available to all? Have you thought about dance lessons for the two of you? for the bridal party? Specialized lighting is an economical way to turn an otherwise ordinary venue into an extraordinary sight. Are you serving alcohol? What about children...have you considered things for them to do or someone to watch over them? Do you need to hire a house-cleaning service?

How do you find good service providers? First of all, find recommendations from reputable sources, and then, ask questions? Below are a few sample questions:

• How long have you been in business providing this type of service?

• What type of guarantee do you have?

• How are your employees dressed?

• Are you licensed?

• Do you have references?

A: Grab the girls and make a fun day out of trying on dresses! Call your nearest or favorite bridal shop and set an appointment. Seattle Wedding Workbook has a recommendation... for you.

Let the bridal shop know your budget. Have them measure you! Different designers may require different sizes, but remember that most of the brides you have seen had their "perfectly fitted" gown altered from the original bridal shop dress they purchased. Don't be upset if you're wedding dress is a larger size. All that matters is that you look and feel beautiful on your wedding day, and a bridal shop will tailor your dress to fit your body exactly how it should!

IMPORTANT: Don't forget to write down fitting appointments, your favorite designers and dress styles, and the "details" on the worksheets provided on pages 11 and 13 of your Seattle Wedding Workbook.

What Sort of Transportation Shall We Use? Who Do We Need to Consider?

Planning transportation for many couples is quite simple - just rent a couple of limos! However, for some, this may seem ordinary or excessive.

One thing you may wish to ask is: "Who requires transportation?" You would do well to consider:

the bride and groom

the wedding party

guests (including: elderly, children, infirmed)

If your reception and ceremony are in different locations, consider offering shuttle buses or rented golf carts for your guests.
